The reason for the closure of the Melton route was not given. But this left only Platform 1 for the 10.30am St Pancras -Derby Turbostar to be overtaken by the 10.55am St Pancras-Nottingham -Nottingham HST. The Derby had to go ahead, and the HST was delayed 10 minutes. Late running Central Trains, particularly the Liverpool -Stansted services, caused problems throughout the afternoon. Southbound 158957 failed on the 1.36pm Stansted-Liverpool, blocking Platform 3 until 4.39pm, delaying the 3.56pm Nottingham-St Pancras Turbostar, which crossed over and used Platform 2, and the 3.27pm Sheffield-St Pancras HST, which had to wait and was thus 16 late and behind the Nottingham instead of ahead of it. Freight traffic was sparse until 1.30pm, but much busier thereafter.
